A studio art class at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago has started publishing a blog about photography. There have been posts on Sally Mann, Yousuf Karsh and Richard Avedon.
Recently, a post went up showing four Art Shay photographs. The accompanying text provides basic biographical information including that Shay is "known for his pictures of Chicago street life as well as national celebrity."The up-to-date research ends with a nod to one of Shay's latest projects:
His friendship with the writer Nelson Algren led to the publication of Shay's Nelson Algren's Chicago. Algren is best known for his novel, Man with a Golden Arm, which was later made into a movie starring Frank Sinatra. As of late, Shay has been hired to chronicle the life of Smashing Pumpkin's Billy Corgan.
When the next Shay exhibit opens at the Thomas Masters Gallery, the students might want to schedule a field trip for a first-hand look.
