I immediately emailed two of my friends who are students, and heard back that one of them was locked in a lab and the other had been warned and had stayed home. I felt very relieved, and I just heard that one of the professors there who I have worked with a lot and is actually a member of my company's board is safely in his office this afternoon. There are still several people I haven't heard from."

CollegeMedia is hosting the campus paper's posts and comments, including this from a freshman, Cheryl Cordingley: "I think this definitely has the potential to bring the community together," Cordingley said. "I intend to go to Cassel tomorrow to show my support for all of those people that have been impacted by this shooting."

And on Facebook, one Arizona student has called for a day of remembrance:

"Tomorrow, April 17 , please wear maroon and orange (VT's school colors) ribbons or shirts to remember the victims and students of Virginia Tech."
