Martha Stewart and sewing

The Martha Stewart show will focus on sewing on Monday, Sept. 24. Not sure any tickets are still available, but this notice, which has been on the show's "get tickets" page, gives an idea of what she will be doing that day:

"The Martha Stewart Show" is looking for SEWERS like you! We're filling our entire audience with sewers on Monday, September 24 at 10 a.m. A reservation is required. At the bottom of the ticket-request form, be sure to tell us about yourself: Are you a student who is learning to sew? Are you part of a college group, high school group, or moms' group that sews? Have you been sewing for a long time on your own? We're asking everyone to bring something they've sewn with them on show day, so you won't want to miss it. I have many Amy Butler squares pieced and ready to put assemble for my king sized quilt. My squares are 18 inches and I wanted them large to show off the beautiful fabrics. However, this quilt is going to be HUGE! I don't have a long-arm quilting machine but I think with super-thin batting I can slip it all under my machine to quilt. Passively debating if I should make the top 2 twins, instead.

Sewing Curtains

I have been slow in my quilting because my knitting needles have been taking all my time. I do have to sew some curtains for my bedroom and sewing room. I need to line -- them they will be seen from outside. I bought exciting fabric for curtains, but I am worried that the room will have too much pattern because of the quilts I have hanging in the rooms! I should have stuck with neutrals but with all the great fabrics out there... I bought simple rods from Bed Bath and Beyond and used coupons.

Some websites have home Q&A's, and there was this recent exchange about curtains at The Washington Post's site:

 

I've got a question about curtains. What are your thoughts on using a double rod, with sheers that are usually drawn shut (to let in light but slightly soften the views of houses next door), and front panels that are usually left open. Does this look fussy and overdone? Do the front panels need to be pulled back, or can they hang flat? Thanks!

Dennese Rojas: The best suggestion instead of a double rod, if you have the panels is to have sheer Roman shades underneath vs. having all that drapery hanging.
