The link to the Philadelphia Inquirer leads to the funniest description I've ever read of a Book Fair.
When I first started in the book business I, too, attended fund-raising tent sales. I brought along a bright yellow nylon windbreaker to throw over the books in my cart while I thoughtfully perused the tables. Towards the end of the sale, I walked to my cart with a few more additions - and found an empty cart with a forlorn yellow windbreaker guarding absolutely nothing. Did I rage like the man described in the following article? No, I was much more restrained. I stood there. And cried.

Your yellow slicker incident was indeed frustrating and your reaction charming even tho painful.
Perhaps the word PUSCHCART is something we should pay attention to so to keep things moving along side of us holding whatever is valuable to us and your yellow slicker would have been absolutley the right choice of color....sunny and bright ...as would have been your outing However your remembrance of a disappointment was charming in comparision to rants and raves.
Enjoy your writings very much..
